About This Text
Author: Immanuel of Rome
Composed: Middle-Age Italy, c.1285 – c.1325 CE
Immanuel of Rome, known primarily for his poetry, also wrote commentaries on most or all of the 24 books of the Bible, though most of these works remain in manuscript. The commentary on Esther was printed in 1880 by Pietro Perreau, an Italian priest whose own scholarship focused heavily on Jewish literature. Immanuel’s commentary emphasizes linguistic and philosophical interpretations and often builds on earlier sources, though they are rarely cited by name.
