In addition to the chasidic works for which the 19th-century Rabbi Tzadok HaKohen of Lublin is most famous, he composed many legal works, including some written as rebuttals on specific topics. One of these, Meshiv Tzedek, explores legal texts regarding dwelling in a sukkah on Shemini Atzeret, a holiday that is attached to Sukkot but treated as at least partly separate from it. Among other things, the work includes analysis of the prohibition against adding to the Torah’s commandments. It was printed along with discourses the author, known as a scholar from a young age, delivered at his bar mitzvah.
