If a man asks your advice and you can advise, lead him in the upright way that appears in your eyes to be the will of God, but not according to his way which is against God’s will. If you can advise do not remain silent, lest he ask another who will advise him improperly. Thus did it happen to Absalom when he asked advice of Ahithophel,1Ahitophel, who was asked to advise, gave advice congenial to the desires of Absalom but contrary to God’s will. Later Hushai gave counsel in keeping with God’s will but contrary to the desires of Absalom. As a result of Hushai’s advice Absalom fell into David’s hands. However, if Hushai had remained silent, Absalom would have followed Ahitophel’s advice (Perush). and then Hushai, the Archite, advised and he fell into the hands of David.
