קצה) ובג"כ כתיב בראשית וכו': ומשום זה כתוב, בראשית, שהוא יראה, ברא אלקים את השמים ואת הארץ. כי מי שעובר על זו, עובר על כל מצות התורה. וענשו של מי שעובר על זו, הוא, שרצועה הרעה הזו דהיינו, היראה הרעה, מכה אותו. והיינו, והארץ היתה תהו ובהו וחשך על פני תהום ורוח אלקים. הרי אלו ארבעה עונשים להעניש בהם את הרשעים. 195. “For this reason, it is written ‘in the beginning. ’ etc.”
For this reason, it is stated: “In the beginning,” which is fear, “God created the heavens and the earth.” One who violates this, violates all the commandments of the Torah and the punishment of one who violates this is that this evil strap, which is the evil fear, strikes him. This [the meaning of]: “And the earth was unformed and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the spirit of God [hovered over the face of the waters,” Genesis 1:2]. Those are the four punishments with which to punish the wicked.
