Ibn Ezra on Genesis 24:23:1
Everybody agrees that staying overnight does not induce
ṭevel
. What is the difference between staying overnight and staying during the Sabbath? A person happens to stay overnight, nobody happens to stay during the Sabbath. A person will stay anywhere overnight, nobody stays everywhere during the Sabbath. It was stated: “It happened that Rebbi Joshua went to Rabban Joḥanan ben Zakkai in Bene Ḥayil, and some local people brought them fruits. Rebbi Joshua said to them, if we stay overnight, we are obligated to tithe; otherwise, we are not obligated to tithe…

In the case of

Ḥizqiah said, that they should not say, we saw that water filled for the sanctification of hands and feet become disqualified by staying overnight. In the House of Rebbi Yannai they said, that they should not say, we saw that water filled for Tabernacles become disqualified by staying overnight…
Jerusalem Talmud Sukkah 4:7:2-3
Rabbi Shimon ben Yoḥai
further
says:
There are
five
actions with regard to
which one who performs them
is held
liable for his
own
life, and his blood is upon his
own
head,
i.e., he bears responsibility for his own demise. They are as follows:
One who eats peeled garlic or a peeled onion or a peeled egg, and one who drinks diluted drinks;
all these are referring to items only
when they were left overnight. And one who sleeps
at night
in a cemetery, and one who removes his nails and throws them into a public area…
