Unity

Jewish tradition, with roots in midrash, maintains that Israelites stood at Mount Sinai as though they were “one person with one heart.” Acheinu, a prayer expressing Jewish unity, occupies an important place for many in Jewish prayer. The Torah also warns of the dangers of uniformity, through stories like the Tower of Babel, and Jewish texts throughout the ages consider how to balance unity with values that at times conflict with it.
