There is a lot of hiding in Megillat Esther and the holiday of Purim.
In this activity, the students will discover hidden elements in the megillah by solving 6 puzzles.
Here is how to run the activity.
- Give the students the link to the first sheet (https://www.sefaria.org/sheets/213906?lang=bi). You can send the URL via your LMS or put it on the board for the students to type. They can also search for it by name (Hide and Seek - A Purim Scavenger Hunt) in Sefaria.
- Students open the sheet and read the clue for something hidden in the megillah.
- The students search Megillat Esther on Sefaria to find the verse that contains the answer.
- When they find the verse, they click on the text to open the resource panel and click on "Sheets".
- Scroll down to find a sheet with the title "Purim Hide and Seek". This sheet will contain the next clue.
- Students continue from clue to clue until they find the (virtual) prize at the end.

(ז) וַיְהִ֨י אֹמֵ֜ן אֶת־הֲדַסָּ֗ה הִ֤יא אֶסְתֵּר֙ בַּת־דֹּד֔וֹ כִּ֛י אֵ֥ין לָ֖הּ אָ֣ב וָאֵ֑ם וְהַנַּעֲרָ֤ה יְפַת־תֹּ֙אַר֙ וְטוֹבַ֣ת מַרְאֶ֔ה וּבְמ֤וֹת אָבִ֙יהָ֙ וְאִמָּ֔הּ לְקָחָ֧הּ מָרְדֳּכַ֛י ל֖וֹ לְבַֽת׃
(7) He was foster father to Hadassah—that is, Esther—his uncle’s daughter, for she had neither father nor mother. The maiden was shapely and beautiful; and when her father and mother died, Mordecai adopted her as his own daughter.

(7) In the first month, that is, the month of Nisan, in the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus, pur—which means “the lot”—was cast before Haman concerning every day and every month, [until it fell on] the twelfth month, that is, the month of Adar.

(14) On the contrary, if you keep silent in this crisis, relief and deliverance will come to the Jews from another quarter, while you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows, perhaps you have attained to royal position for just such a crisis.”

(19) That is why village Jews, who live in unwalled towns, observe the fourteenth day of the month of Adar and make it a day of merrymaking and feasting, and as a holiday and an occasion for sending gifts to one another.
