ואברהם לבדו נבחר במעשיו ונתעלה ונקבע להיות אילן מעולה ויקר כפי מציאות האנושית במדריגתו העליונה וניתן לו להוציא ענפיו כפי חקו. ואז נתחלק העולם לע׳ אומות כל א׳ מהם במדריגה ידוע אבל כלם בבחי׳ האנושיות בשפלותו וישראל בחי׳ האנושיות בעילויו והנה אחר הענין הזה נסתם שער השרשי והתחיל הגלגול וההנהגה בענפים כל א׳ לפי ענינו ונמצא שאעפ״י שלכאורה נראה ענינינו עתה וענין הקודמים שוה באמת איננו כך אלא עד הפלגה היה הזמן שרשי האנושיות ונתגלגלו הדברים בבחי׳ זו וכשהגיע קץ זמן זה נקבע הדבר כפי המשפט והתחיל זמן אחר שהוא זמן הענפים שעודנו בו עתה:
And it was Abraham alone that was chosen because of his deeds. He had raised himself and was set to be an excellent and precious tree, according to the higher level of human existence, such that it was [also] given to him to produce his branches according to his qualities. And then the world was divided into seventy nations - each one of them at a certain level, but all of them in the way of mankind in its lowliness, whereas Israel was in the way of mankind in its height. And after this matter, the gate of roots was closed and the development and direction of the branches began - each one according to his character. And so even though, prima facie, it appears that our situation now and the situation of the earlier ones is the same, in truth it is not like that. Rather until the Dispersion, it was the time of the roots of mankind, and things developed in this way. But when the end of this time period arrived, the [status of the roots] was fixed according to justice; and a new different time period began. This was the time period of the branches that we are still in now.
May it be Your will L-rd our G-d and G-d of our ancestors, that through the sacred power of our eating fruit, which we are now eating and blessing, while reflecting on the secret of their supernal roots upon which they depend, their supernal sap will be aroused so that shefa , favor, blessing, and bounty be bestowed upon them. May the angels appointed over them also be filled by the powerful shefa of their glory, may it return and cause them to grow a second time, from the beginning of the year and until its end, for bounty and blessing, for good life and peace.
And may the splendid power of the blessings [said] while eating the fruit illuminate the source of blessings, Tsaddik, the Life of the Worlds, and let the rainbow appear, proudly rejoicing in its colors. From there, may shefa , favor, and compassion be bestowed upon us, to pardon and forgive the iniquities and misdeeds that we committed and sinned. We violated the covenant and damaged the fruit of Tzadik, the Life of the Worlds, and caused the rains of its beneficence to be withheld, so that all the sources [of shefa ] were harmed. Now let everything return to its original might “and let His bow remain taut.“Gen. 49:24. “For You, L-rd , bless the Tzadik, favor crowns him like a shield.“
Those who lived near [Jerusalem] would bring fresh figs and grapes, while those who lived far away would bring dried figs and raisins. An ox would go in front of them, his horns bedecked with gold and with an olive-crown on its head. The flute would play before them until they would draw close to Jerusalem. When they drew close to Jerusalem they would send messengers in advance, and they would adorn their bikkurim. The governors and chiefs and treasurers [of the Temple] would go out to greet them, and according to the rank of the entrants they would go forth. All the skilled artisans of Jerusalem would stand up before them and greet them saying, “Our brothers, men of such and such a place, we welcome you in peace.”
For the L-RD your G-d is bringing you into a good land, a land with streams and springs and fountains issuing from plain and hill; a land of wheat and barley, of vines, figs, and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey; a land where you may eat food without stint, where you will lack nothing; a land whose rocks are iron and from whose hills you can mine copper. When you have eaten your fill, give thanks to the L-RD your G-d for the good land which He has given you.

Rav Ḥiyya bar Abba says that Rav says: These three branches refer to the three proud princes who emerge from the Jewish people in each and every generation. There are times when two are here in Babylonia and one is in Eretz Yisrael, and there are times when two are in Eretz Yisrael and one is here in Babylonia. ...Rava says: These three branches are the three ministering angels appointed to oversee the gentiles who plead in favor of the Jewish people in each and every generation. It is taught in a baraita: Rabbi Eliezer says “Vine” is the world. “Three branches” is Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. “And as it was budding, its blossoms shot forth”; these are the matriarchs. “And its clusters brought forth ripe grapes”; these are the twelve tribes. Rabbi Yehoshua said to him: ...Rather, “Vine” is the Torah. “Three branches”; these are Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. “And as it was budding, its blossoms shot forth”; these are the members of the Sanhedrin. “And its clusters brought forth ripe grapes”; these are the righteous people who live in each and every generation....Rabbi Elazar HaModa’i says: “Vine” is Jerusalem. “Three branches” is the Temple, the king and the High Priest. “And as it was budding [poraḥat], its blossoms shot forth”; these are the young priests. “And its clusters brought forth ripe grapes”; these are the wine libations. Rabbi Yehoshua ben Levi interprets it as the gifts that G-d gave the Jewish people, as Rabbi Yehoshua ben Levi said: “Vine” is the Torah. “Three branches” is the well, the pillar of cloud, and the manna. “And as it was budding, its blossoms shot forth”; these are the first fruits that are brought to the Temple. “And its clusters brought forth ripe grapes”; these are the wine libations. Rabbi Yirmeya bar Abba says: “Vine” is the Jewish people...“Three branches”; these are the three pilgrimage Festivals, on which the Jewish people ascend to Jerusalem every year. “And as it was budding, its blossoms shot forth,” means that the time has arrived for the Jewish people to be fruitful and multiply.... “Its blossoms [nitzah] shot forth” means that the time has arrived for the Jewish people to be redeemed. ...

A righteous person will flourish like a date palm. No part of the date palm is wasted: Its dates are eaten; its young branches are used for ritual blessing [of the lulav on sukkot]; its fronds cover the Sukkah; its fibers are used to make ropes; its leaves are used for sieves; its planed trunks are used for roof beams. So too there are none worthless in Israel: Some are versed in the Bible; others know Mishnah; some are masters of aggadah [storytelling]; others do good deeds; still others promote social equity.
