(יב) כַּבֵּ֥ד אֶת־אָבִ֖יךָ וְאֶת־אִמֶּ֑ךָ לְמַ֙עַן֙ יַאֲרִכ֣וּן יָמֶ֔יךָ עַ֚ל הָאֲדָמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־ה' אֱלֹקֶ֖יךָ נֹתֵ֥ן לָֽךְ׃ {ס}
(12) Honor your father and your mother, that you may long endure on the land that the LORD your God is assigning to you.
Jerusalem, the Jewish people's holiest city, was the capitol of King David's Jewish kingdom. David's great-grandmother Ruth showed intense loyalty to mother-in-law Naomi, leaving her homeland of Moab for the land of Israel, and becoming the most famous Jew-by-choice in Jewish history.
When Ruth gives birth to a son, the women of Bethlehem name him Obed, and the Book of Ruth records that Obed will be the father of Jesse, who will be the father of David.
- Go to the last chapter in the Book of Ruth, find the verse in which the women of Bethlehem name David's ancestor.
