(11) The sayings of the wise are like goads/cattle prods, like nails fixed in sticks. They were given by one Shepherd.
(יא) כדרבונות, כדרבן זה שמכוין את הפרה, כדי לחרוש, וכדי ליתן חיים לבעליה. כך דברי תורה, מכוונין את לב לומדיהם, מדרכי מיתה לדרכי חיים.
As goads/cattle prods: As the goad directs the calf so that it plows and so that it provides livelihood to its owner, so words of Torah direct the heart of those who study them from the ways of death to the ways of life.
(יא) דברי חכמים כדרבנות - ככדור של בנות.
מה כדור זה מקלעין בה בידים ואינה נופלת, כך משה קבל תורה מסיני ומסרה ליהושע ויהושע לזקנים, וזקנים לנביאים ונביאים מסרוה לכנסת הגדולה וכו'.

As a ball is flung from hand to hand never falling, so Moses received the Torah at Sinai and delivered it to Joshua, Joshua to the elders, the elders to the prophets and the prophets delivered it to the members of the great assembly.

The sayings of the wise are like goads (kdarbanot) - about which it is expounded, like a girl's ball (k'kadur shel banot) that is thrown from this one's hand to the hand of her playmate. So to, we transmit Torah to our comrade, and that one is made clever/enlightened by the exchange.
