(26) He addressed the community, saying, “Move away from the tents of these evil men and touch nothing that belongs to them, lest you be wiped out for all their sins.”
He addressed the community, saying, “Move away from the tents of these evil men..."(Numbers 16:26)Our Rabbis taught, Four (categories of people are called 'evil' and these are them:
1)The one who extends his arm to strike his fellow, even though he did not hit him, is called evil. As it is stated, "So he said to the evil one, why would you strike your fellow?" (Exodus 2:13) "(Why) did you strike?" is not stated, rather, "Why would you would you strike."
2) The one who borrows and does not repay, as it is stated, "The evil person borrows but does not repay."(Psalm 37:21)
3)Also, one who is disrespectful/impertinent and without shame in his/her interactions with those greater than him/herself, as it is stated, "The evil one is disrespectful." (Proverbs 21:29)
4) And, one who generates disagreement/discord, as it is stated, "Move away from the tens of these evil men." (Numbers 16:26)
(17) Every argument that is for [the sake of] heaven's name, it is destined to endure. But if it is not for [the sake of] heaven's name -- it is not destined to endure. What is [an example of an argument] for [the sake of] heaven's name? The argument of Hillel and Shammai. What is [an example of an argument] not for [the sake of] heaven's name? The argument of Korach and all of his congregation.
