On its day of disaster,
Gaze in glee with the others

And lay hands on its wealth
On its day of disaster!

Gaze in glee with the others
On its misfortune
On its day of disaster,
And lay hands on its wealth
On its day of disaster!

Remarks:
- Parentheses surround musical syllables that will never exist in these patterns.
- See the previous page for the distinction between kadma and pashta.
- Mahpach, a conjunctive, is placed under the first letter of the accented syllable, following the vowel, if any.
- Y'tiv, a disjunctive, is a variation of pashta. It is placed under the first letter of the accented syllable (which is always the first letter of the word), preceding the vowel, if any.
- Note the distinctions between mahpach and y'tiv. Mahpach must be followed by pashta, but y'tiv may be followed by pashta, or even by mahpach pashta.
- When the first, accented syllable of a word includes a vowel not beneath the word (cholam or shuruk), care must be taken to distinguish mahpach from y'tiv by context or meaning.
