Every year Jews retell the Passover story — and as Jewish educators, we teach our students about it year after year. The haggadah, our framework for retelling this story, is so rich that there's always something new to learn from and teach about it. Ahead of the holiday, I want to share some of my recommended resources on Sefaria for doing just that.
Texts to Explore
- Find more than a dozen commentaries on the Haggadah, with many large sections translated into English by Rabbi Mark Greenspan. Written between the 13th and 20th centuries in countries ranging from Morocco to Ukraine, these commentaries contain many diverse points of view.
- Dig into Mishnah Pesachim chapter 10, which describes the Passover seder. By studying this section in the classroom, students can use Sefaria’s interlinking to explore related texts including Talmud, Halakhah, and more.
Seder Activities
Use our Seder on Sefaria collection to bring the Passover seder to life. Materials include an afikoman scavenger hunt, DIY haggadah activity, relatable explorations of specific parts of the seder, and more — all adaptable to different age groups and audiences.
Tech Tip
Did you know that Sefaria is home to digitized manuscripts of classic texts? Explore 60+ images of the four children from original haggadot spanning six centuries, viewable in the right-hand resource panel under 'Manuscripts.' Use this curated sheet from our learning team to see a selection of available illustrations with added context.
I hope these resources help you and your students discover something new this Passover!
