Eivissa, known as Ibiza in Spanish, is a well-known island located in Sefarad. The Hebrew name for the island is איביזה. During the 16th century, the island was repeatedly attacked by Barbary pirates. Interestingly, the Hebrew name of the island can be broken down into two words: אי (meaning "island") and ביזה (meaning "pillage" or "loot").
Gavá, a municipality located in Barcelona, is another town in Sefarad that seems to have a Hebrew origin. The town boasts an impressive mountainous region. Its name first appeared in a document dating back to the year 1002. Interestingly, the Hebrew transcription of the name is גבה, which means "He rose" or "was high".
