Rav Yehuda said: One who goes out during the Nissan season and sees trees that are blossoming, recites: Blessed are you oh Divine, Our God Spirit of the Universe, who has withheld nothing from Their world, and has created in it beautiful creatures and trees for human beings to enjoy.
כלומר שנותן שבח והודאה להשי"ת שברא בשביל האדם אפילו דברים שאין בהם הכרחיות לחיי האדם, כמו פרי אילנות. ולכן אין מברכים ברכה זו על זרעים וירקות, דאלו הם כהכרחיות ולא כן הפירות.ומברך בשעת הפריחה, דאז ניכר שיוציאו פירות. ובמדינתינו אינו בניסן אלא באייר או תחלת סיון, ואז אנו מברכין. ואין ברכה זו אלא פעם אחת בשנה אפילו רואה אילנות אחרות, דברכה זו היא ברכה של הודאה כלליות על חסדו וטובו יתברך.
...The meaning is, we give thanks and gratitude to the Creator for those things which humans enjoy and yet were not necessarily obligatory in the cycle of Creation, like the fruit of trees. Therefore, this is only said on fruit trees, and not on seeds and vegetables, which are in fact necessary.
The blessing is recited when the fruits are flowering.
In our lands, however, fruits do not flower in Nissan (ie March/April), but rather in Iyar or the beginning of Sivan (ie May/June), and we wait until that time.
And we only make this blessing once a year.

"The language of the gemara seems to indicate the blessing must be said specifically during Nissan... it implies that the many blossoms of the almond trees which blossom prior to Nissan would not be appropriate for the blessing...therefore, one should only make this blessing during the month of Nissan itself."

...This is also a teaching for our inner soil, the ensouled bodies we have been given to walk this earth. We too need fallow time. We too need to stop the cycles of work, of planting and harvest, of making ourselves produce, and give ourselves true rest. True rest is play. True rest is rediscovering the wild self, the self of dreams and visions and prayers, the self that God invents, not us. I can’t help but think of the artist and author Maurice Sendak of blessed memory, who died this week, and who taught so many of us about the importance of being among the wild things for a while before we go home for dinner. We too need to go back to our original owner, who is not our employer or our customer or even our beloved families or friends, but the holy blessed One. We need to free ourselves from the indentured servitude of our assumptions and routines. We need to remember that the messy stuff inside us is not dirt, it’s earth, and earth grows things.
I want to suggest that there is an even greater mystery in the law of the jubilee year. The freeing of the land and its inhabitants is not only a matter of ethics or of self-discovery; it is also a matter of quantum physics. You can’t own land. The topsoil of this planet isn’t a thing; it is a life-giving mystery permeated with water, air, and organisms. You can’t own space. Space is full of atoms that are mostly nothing; it is an immensely potent and dynamic emptiness. You can’t own souls. What we call ownership and control and inheritance and commerce is really stewardship. The Torah teaches that our interactions with all physical entities, including the earth, need to be touched by humility and by holiness.
(א) וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יי אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֣ה וְאֶֽל־אַהֲרֹ֔ן בְּאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרַ֖יִם לֵאמֹֽר׃ (ב) הַחֹ֧דֶשׁ הַזֶּ֛ה לָכֶ֖ם רֹ֣אשׁ חֳדָשִׁ֑ים רִאשׁ֥וֹן הוּא֙ לָכֶ֔ם לְחָדְשֵׁ֖י הַשָּׁנָֽה׃
(1) The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt: (2) This month shall mark for you the beginning of the months; it shall be the first of the months of the year for you.
(א) החדש הזה. הֶרְאָהוּ לְבָנָה בְּחִדּוּשָׁהּ וְאָמַר לוֹ כְּשֶׁהַיָּרֵחַ מִתְחַדֵּשׁ יִהְיֶה לְךָ רֹאשׁ חֹדֶשׁ (מכילתא).
(1) החדש הזה — He showed him the moon in the first stage of its renewal, and He said to him, “The time when the moon renews itself thus, shall be unto you the beginning of the month”. (The translation therefore is: “This stage of renewal (חדש) shall be the moment of beginning the months”;
והנה אין ללבנה שנה כלל. כאשר אין לשמש חדש כלל. כי לא יתחדש בשמש דבר רק דבר החדוש הוא לאור הלבנה. ובעבור זה נקרא חדש.
Ibn Ezra:
... the moon doesn't have a year, just like the sun doesn't have a month. Because the sun does not have any renewal - the only thing that is renewed is the light of the moon. And therefore a month is called 'chodesh' (new).
. וַאֲפִילוּ כֻּלָּנוּ חֲכָמִים כֻּלָּנוּ נְבוֹנִים כֻּלָּנוּ זְקֵנִים כֻּלָּנוּ יוֹדְעִים אֶת הַתּוֹרָה מִצְוָה עָלֵינוּ לְסַפֵּר בִּיצִיאַת מִצְרָיִם. וְכָל הַמַּרְבֶּה לְסַפֵּר בִּיצִיאַת מִצְרַיִם הֲרֵי זֶה מְשֻׁבָּח.
Even if we were all sages, all wise, all elders, all knowledgeable about the Torah, it would be a commandment upon us to tell the story of the exodus from Egypt. And anyone who tells the story of the Exodus at length: behold, this is praiseworthy!
מַעֲשֶׂה בְּרַבִּי אֱלִיעֶזֶר וְרַבִּי יְהוֹשֻׁעַ וְרַבִּי אֶלְעָזָר בֶּן־עֲזַרְיָה וְרַבִּי עֲקִיבָא וְרַבִּי טַרְפוֹן שֶׁהָיוּ מְסֻבִּין בִּבְנֵי־בְרַק וְהָיוּ מְסַפְּרִים בִּיצִיאַת מִצְרַיִם כָּל־אוֹתוֹ הַלַּיְלָה, עַד שֶׁבָּאוּ תַלְמִידֵיהֶם וְאָמְרוּ לָהֶם רַבּוֹתֵינוּ הִגִּיעַ זְמַן קְרִיאַת שְׁמַע שֶׁל שַׁחֲרִית.
One Passover, Rabbi Eliezer, Rabbi Yehoshua, Rabbi Elazar ben Azariah, Rabbi Akiva and Rabbi Tarfon were reclining in Bnei Brak telling stories of the exodus from Egypt all night long — until their students came and said to them, "It's time to recite the morning shema!"
בְּכָל־דּוֹר וָדוֹר חַיָּב אָדָם לִרְאוֹת אֶת־עַצְמוֹ כְּאִלּוּ הוּא יָצָא מִמִּצְרַיִם.
In each and every generation, a person is obligated to see themself as if they personally left Egypt.
(לז) ובכל דור ודור חייב אדם להראות את עצמו כאילו הוא יצא ממצרים. שלא את אבותינו בלבד גאל אלא אף אותנו גאל, שנאמר (דברים ו): "ואותנו הוציא משם, למען הביא אותנו לתת לנו את הארץ אשר נשבע לאבותינו".
And in every generation, a person is obligated to present himself as if he left Egypt. That not only only did God redeem our ancestors, but God redeemed us as well, as it is said, "and us He freed from there, that He might take us and give us the land that He had promised on oath to our fathers."
בְּכָל־דּוֹר וָדוֹר חַיָּב אָדָם לִרְאוֹת אֶת־עַצְמוֹ כְּאִלּוּ הוּא יָצָא מִמִּצְרַיִם, שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר: וְהִגַּדְתָּ לְבִנְךָ בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא לֵאמֹר, בַּעֲבוּר זֶה עָשָׂה ה' לִי בְּצֵאתִי מִמִּצְרַיִם. לֹא אֶת־אֲבוֹתֵינוּ בִּלְבָד גָּאַל הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא, אֶלָּא אַף אוֹתָנוּ גָּאַל עִמָּהֶם, שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר: וְאוֹתָנוּ הוֹצִיא מִשָּׁם, לְמַעַן הָבִיא אוֹתָנוּ, לָתֶת לָנוּ אֶת־הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר נִשָׁבַּע לַאֲבֹתֵינוּ.
In each and every generation, a person is obligated to see himself as if he left Egypt, as it is stated (Exodus 13:8); "And you shall explain to your son on that day: For the sake of this, did the Lord do [this] for me in my going out of Egypt." Not only our ancestors did the Holy One, blessed be He, redeem, but rather also us [together] with them did He redeem, as it is stated (Deuteronomy 6:23); "And He took us out from there, in order to bring us in, to give us the land which He swore unto our fathers."
ר' יוסי בר' יהודה אומר: שלשה פרנסים טובים עמדו לישראל. אלו הן משה ואהרן ומרים. וג' מתנות טובות ניתנו על ידם ואלו הן באר וענן ומן. באר בזכות מרים עמוד ענן בזכות אהרן מן בזכות משה. מתה מרים נסתלק הבאר שנאמר (במדבר כ, א) ותמת שם מרים וכתיב בתריה ולא היה מים לעדה...
R. Jose the son of R. Judah says: Three good leaders had arisen for Israel, namely. Moses, Aaron and Miriam, and for their sake three good things were conferred [upon Israel], namely, the Well, the Pillar of Cloud and the Manna; the Well, for the merit of Miriam; the Pillar of Cloud for the merit of Aaron; the Manna for the merit of Moses. When Miriam died the well disappeared, as it is said, And Miriam died there, and immediately follows [the verse], And there was no water for the congregation....

(6) Ten things were created on the eve of the [first] Sabbath at twilight, And these are they: [1] The mouth of the earth [that swallowed Korach in Numbers 16:32], [2] The mouth of the well [that accompanied the Israelites in the Wilderness in Numbers 21:17], [3] The mouth of the donkey [that spoke to Balaam in Numbers 22:28–30], [4] The rainbow [that served as a covenant after the Flood in Genesis 9:13], [5] The manna [that God provided the Israelites in the Wilderness in Exodus 16:4–21], [6] The rod [of Moses], [7] The Shamir [worm that helped build the Temple without metal tools], [8] The letters, [9] The writing, and [10] The tablets [of the Ten Commandments]. And some say: Also the destructive spirits, And the burial place of Moses, our teacher, And the ram of Abraham, our father. And some say: Also the [first human-made] tongs, made with [Divine] tongs.
זאֹת כּוֹס מִרְיָם, כּוֹס מַיִם חַיִּים, זֵכֶר לִיצִיאַת מִצְרָיִם.
This is the cup of Miriam, the cup of living waters, a reminder of the Exodus from Egypt.
מִרְיָם הַנְּבִיאָה
עֹז וְזִמְרָה בְּיָדָהּ
(2x) מִרְיָם, תִּרְקֹד אִתָּנוּ
לְהַגְדִּיל זִמְרַת עוֹלָם.
מִרְיָם הַנְּבִיאָה
עֹז וְזִמְרָה בְּיָדָהּ
(2x) מִרְיָם, תִּרְקֹד אִתָּנוּ
לְתַקֵּן אֵת הָעוֹלָם.
בִּמְהֵרָה בְיָמֵינוּ
הִיא תְּבִיאֶנּוּ
אֶל מֵי הַיְשׁוּעָה
אֶל מֵי הַיְשׁוּעָה.
Miriam the prophet,
strength and song in her hand,
(2x) Miriam, dance with us
in order to increase the song of the world.

Soon
she will bring us
to the waters of redemption,

We were slaves to Pharaoh in the land of Egypt. And the Lord, our God, took us out from there with a strong hand and an outstretched forearm. And if the Holy One, blessed be He, had not taken our ancestors from Egypt, behold we and our children and our children's children would [all] be enslaved to Pharaoh in Egypt. And even if we were all sages, all discerning, all elders, all knowledgeable about the Torah, it would be a commandment upon us to tell the story of the exodus from Egypt. And anyone who adds [and spends extra time] in telling the story of the exodus from Egypt, behold he is praiseworthy.
