Ever wondered where the source for “Shabbos clothes” comes from?
There are actually 2 Gemaras in Shabbos that mention this concept.
On Shabbos 114a the Gemara learns this from a passuk in this weeks Parsha (Vayikra 6:4).
And on Shabbos 113a the Gemara learns this from a passuk in Nach (Yeshaya 58:13).
But you’re probably wondering, why do we need two different verses to teach us about changing clothes for shabbos?
Ben Yehoyada (114a) explains that one source teaches that one should wear *nicer* clothes, the other is about wearing *different* clothes, not necessarily fancy!
A practical difference emerges which Mishna Berura points out. One should even have different undergarments which you only wear for shabbos, because of the Halacha on 113a to have different clothes for shabbos even if they’re not necessarily nicer.
