About This Text
Author: Yosef Patzanovski
Pardes Yosef is a popular early 20th-century Torah commentary by Rabbi Yosef Patzanovski, a Ger Chasid. Encyclopedic in nature, the work presents a vast amount of rabbinic sources that relate to the relevant biblical text and includes tangential topics that are analyzed comprehensively. Patzanovski published the first three volumes on Genesis, Exodus, and Leviticus between 1930 and 1939. World War II prevented him from publishing volumes on Numbers and Deuteronomy. Pardes Yosef was reprinted in several editions after Patzanovski’s death, including a late 20th-century edition that incorporated volumes on the books of Numbers and Deuteronomy, written by others in the style of Patzanovski’s writing.
